Old Fashioned Glazed Ham

Total Time: 2hours 50mins
Yield: 10-12 servings

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 (14-pound) cooked and smoked cured ham, shank end
  • 3/4 cup pineapple juice
  • 20 canned pineapple rings
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Put oven rack in the middle of the oven.

In a small bowl, mix together the Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and thyme.

Put the ham in a large roasting pan, fat side up. Rub the ham with mustard glaze. Pour the pineapple juice into the bottom of the pan. Put the ham in the oven and bake for 2 hours, brushing every 20 minutes with the pineapple juice. Remove the ham from the oven.

Turn oven to 400 degrees F.

Using toothpicks, decoratively adhere the pineapple rings around the ham and put a cherry in the center of the pineapple ring. Sprinkle the pineapple rings lightly with brown sugar. Return to the oven, uncovered, and bake until the pineapples turn a light golden brown. Remove from the oven to a serving platter and let rest for 15 minutes before slicing.

Courtesy Reminders

  • If you are the proud owner of an extended cab vehicle, please be mindful and refer from backing over sidewalks. This prevents our sidewalks from being accessible to all residents.
  • If you are out of town, do not disconnect or turn off your breakers in your apartment home. This can create electrical and moisture issues in your apartment home.
  • When using the trash compactor, make sure to close the door after each time you drop a trash bag down the trash shoot. This will help by compacting the trash effectively and prevent future jams!

Trash Compactor

Please remember the recycling receptacle to the left of the trash compactor is for broken down CARDBOARD BOXES ONLY EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY.

Do not dispose of large bulky items in the compactor. Disposing of such items actually causes our compactor to either jam or burn the motor causing garbage back up that is very unsightly.

You can dispose of them at our local waste/recycling convenience center located at 130 Castle Rock Road, open 7:30am-7pm closed on Wednesdays. This is less than a mile from the community. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

Beaufort County Animal Shelter Donations Needed

We continue to be open for donations to the Beaufort County Animal Shelter. You can help the homeless animals by donating: towels, blankets, dish towels, paper towels, cotton balls, blue Dawn dish soap, bleach, dog and cat crates, canned dog and cat food, and more!

Want to send them something? Add them to your Amazon order. Go here to see their wish list.

Maintenance Tip

1.  Exercise wherever you can. You already know to take the stairs, park far away and so on to get more exercise. This holiday season, wear a pedometer as you're running around, and see how many steps you can accumulate. Use every opportunity to get in more movement, whether it's parking on the opposite side of where you need to be or chopping down your own Christmas tree.
2. Make it a family affair. As you gather together with your family, plan active things to do. Walk around the neighborhood to look at holiday decorations. Play football before the big meal at Christmas. Plan contests with the kids to see who can run the farthest or who can do the most push-ups. Challenge everyone to a snow-shoveling contest, and then build a snow person out of the remains.
3. Limit the alcohol. Not only is it full of sugar and empty calories, but can also lead you to overeating. Drink water as much as you can.
4. Don’t eat your feelings. if the holidays bring you down, reach out to friends and family for a support system instead of turning to food. Ask for help and talk through your feelings.
5. And remember - Delicious foods and desserts are available all year long, there is no reason why you have to overeat at holiday parties. Have a few bites, enjoy, and move on. No need to stuff yourself just because it is the holiday season.

Pet Reminder

We have been noticing a pet waste issue around our community. Please be reminded that we do fine $60 for anyone who is caught not picking up after their pet. We want everyone here at Ashton Pointe to enjoy their home. Let’s work together on keeping the community looking beautiful!
