I am speaking about everyone’s favorite social networking site, Facebook. It seems like only yesterday it was 2003. That year had worldwide events such as the election of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the creation of Homeland Security, and Lance Armstrong was winning his 5th of 7 Tour de France titles. Little did we know at the same time, a nerdy Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg was hacking into Harvard’s student ID directory and launching the early versions of Facebook (which at the time was named FaceMash).
Now it’s 2010, almost 10 years later and Facebook has reached 500 millions users. This is a huge accomplishment because if you combined the populations of the U.S.A, Canada, Australia, you still wouldn’t reach 500 million. It would take more countries and more citizens to even populate Facebook. Maybe it should be considered its own continent. To celebrate this huge feat Facebook staffers were asked to take a picture of themselves holding Thank-You notes. You can check out the collection at Bing . This phenomenon has become so big that there’s even a Facebook movie coming out about!

That being said, in today’s world, there are no more Paul Reveres riding up and down the coast on a horse to warn of pending attacks. Today, it would simply take a text message. Yahoo Shine has done a great job of compiling the “Texts That Changed History”. Included in that list are Levi Johnston’s text to Bristol Palin and the text message Britney Spears sent to Kevin Federline demanding a divorce.
So think next time you send a text message, just know that it could change history as we know it!
